The Great Cookie Giveaway!

It's "The Great Cookie Giveaway!" Beginning...now, you have the chance to win a special order of my decorated sugar cookies. Actually, they're more like shortbread cookies, but that's a different post. I thought a giveaway would be fun! I follow several blogs and am always excited to see a chance to win something. But those blogs have umpteen followers, and right now I'm at...let's see...13 to be exact. So people who choose to participate really do have a good chance at winning!
So who wants to win? And I will ship them to you if you live far away!
This is all you have to do: go to the comment section of this very post and tell me your favorite kind of cookie. That's all! I'll close the contest at midnight on Wednesday, November 3rd, so that should give you plenty of time to tell me about your favorite kind of cookie. AND if you have a sweet story to go along with it, please include that also! We would all love to hear about that recipe your great, great, great, great Grandma brought over on the Mayflower.
You know you love cookies, so what are you waiting for?
:)
Meredith
p.s. make sure you check back on Thursday evening. I'll announce the winner in a post.

  1. ooh, so much fun!!! i read every new post you put up and i'm always FLOORED at your gifts in making such gorgeous cakes and cookies. i've given your name to a couple of friends to check you out as well. :-)
hmmm...a cookie story? well, i took dinner to brook last night but before we left, the kids helped me make sugar cookies for the boys. we cut them outside on the back deck (on a clean table!) but we were in such a rush that i left everything out there to clean up later. well.......24+ hours later and i found my littlest two eating the last bites of the raw cookie dough. yes, the raw cookie dough that sat out all. night. long. i've already called poison control, and my pediatrician is on standby if they get salmonella. lots of prayers being prayed tonight.
    much love,
    allison

  6. My favorite cookie has to be my grandmother's soft molasses cookies. She died when I was 12, so it's been years and years since I've had one of those cookies.

Anyway, I would have to say that my favorite cookie has to be snicker doodles. By the way, your family is adorable. You are very blessed.

  7. Hi Meredith!
What a nice giveaway from you, offering to mail these cross country perhaps! I love opening your posts on Wilton because your cookies are always flawless. Such a gift you have! My favorite cookies are chocolate crinkles, snickerdoodles, chocolate chip, shortbread and sugar cookies. Or wait. Did you say pick one? Impossible! The chocolate crinkle ones were always a gift from my elderly neigbhor growing up who treated my brother and I like her own grandchildren. When we make those cookies now, they are always "Nanny's" chocolate crinkles. Best of luck to you and your business!

  8. Brown sugar pecan cookies are my favorites. My next favorites are anything someone else makes, as long as they don't have anise in them!

Cookie giveaway! What a fun idea!

  9. My favorite cookies are spritz. Yum, butter! I can eat them by the handful. I really like the ones that are browned on the bottom.

When my sister and I were younger we would sit for hours decorating Christmas cut out cookies. We'd use toothpicks to make designs with different colored frosting. We didn't have a big variety of sprinkles, but we did have the little silver balls, that always were used as the ringer on the Christmas bell. We were so proud of our finished products! Too cute to eat. Of course, we were 9 and 10, so they looked like they were made by 9 and 10 year olds. I love the whimsical nature of your Halloween cookies. Can't wait to see what you do for Christmas. I might have to copy you!

    Thanks! Theresa

  11. Oh, Chocolate Chip, Peanut Butter, Sugar, Molasses Chew, Shortbread, White Chocolate and Macadamia, White Chocolate and Cherry, Triple Chocolate, M&M, Peanut Butter with Hershey Kisses pressed in the middle, Ginger Snap, Lemon, Oatmeal Raisin, Chocolate Mint...just to name a few. I got my sweet tooth from my Daddy's side of the family, it's not secret. But I guess my sweetest memory of making cookies is with Judy King, which ultimately makes my favorite cookie the Snickerdoodle, since that is what we made. Anyone who knew Judy will agree, to spend time with her was always special. She made everything extraordinary and beautiful. It was her gift. I don't know why I had the privilege of getting her all to myself this particular day, but I did! And we went to her house and made Snickerdoodle cookies to take to church for a fellowship function later that evening (back when we used to fellowship in the basement!) I got to measure and pour and mix, and then lick the beaters! She was so encouraging and uplifting, and she always made me feel like I did a great job, as if no other 7 year old in the whole world could ever do it better! That night, as each person placed a Snickerdoodle on their plate, I prowled the room, watching everyone eat my cookies and I remember feeling so important and grown, and, well, part of something. I guess that's when I fell in love with cookies and making them for other people. Judy had a way of making impressions like that.
Life can be hard, full of complications and disappointments. But cookies are such a simple joy--for one moment there is nothing but you, the sweet taste of sugar and butter, and the beautiful gift of taste God gave us. That's why I always give cookies (or other decadent treats)to anyone who needs a little lift. A prayer and a cookie is good for the soul!

  12. Oooooohhhh, cookies are my fave! My favorite is the Double Doozie from Great American Cookie Company with 6.5 million calories. They can whip up something much more tasty than this old girl. =o)

  14. OOOPS! It didn't take my favorite cookie!

I LOVE sugar cookies as long as there is no anise in them! My mom would make those sugar cookies every year for Christmas - and I'd beg her to leave out the anise, but she wouldn't. Finally, I told her "Mom... *I* am making the cookies this year!" and I made them WITHOUT anise! Everyone LOVED them!

  15. My Grandmama's shortbread cookies! Our family is Scottish, and these were the real deal. The only time she made them was at Christmas, and each family got a tin. They were rationed at our house, even getting down to splitting cookies and licking our fingers to get every last crumb. My cousin sent me Grandmama's prized recipe after she died. I haven't had the heart to make them, fearing it was the heart that she put into them that made them so special! Maybe I'll give it a go this Christmas!

  16. I love old-fashioned tea cakes. I have great memories of making them with my kids when they were little and the HUGE mess we made. Now, of course, I make them with my grands - same big mess, but who cares? They grow up SO fast!! Love you Meredith!

  17. My mom wanted a russian tea cookie recipe from her friend of 40 years, Mabel, who had the recipe from her mom, grandma, great grandma etc. Mabel was fanatical about guarding her super secret tea cookie recipes and would never give it to mom, so mom got sneaky. Each year for about 5 years mom would say to Mabel, "I tried to make your cookies and used 5 cups of real salted butter, but they didn't taste like yours, Mabel." Mabel would be smug and say, that's because I only use 4 cups of sweet butter!" (So mom would write that down.) Next year, same thing, only this time it was "Dang, Mabel, I tried to make your cookies again, but when I used 3 cups of crushed walnuts, they just didn't taste the same!" Mabel would be smug and say, "That's because I toast my walnuts!"

Mom and I loved the cookie recipe game that only she and I knew about and would look forward to "playing" each year. (It took 5 years for mom to replicate Mabel's recipe, and we never told Mabel.)

Sadly, both mom and Mabel have passed away. In the wildfires of 2003 my family members were safe and unharmed, but my home and everything in it burned. All of mama's recipes are gone--they were the only real things I grieved for in the fire. I guess Mabel's super-secret recipe will stay super-secret....I think Mabel is probably smiling up in heaven.

  18. Chocolate chip or sugar - we are classic voters around here!
Number 3 on the soccer cake was my sweet Elizabeth and we got to enjoy the pumpkin cookies on a stick from her play school class party!! This was our best Halloween treat!

  19. My favs are Christmas sugar cookies. I remember making these with my mom (who doesn't cook) and getting flour EVERYWHERE!! I loved coloring the sugar different colors too. We got the recipe from a super sweet neighbor and I would go over to their house and help them too. I now have all the Christmas cookie cutters to do this with my sweet sweet girls!!

Thanks Meredith for keeping the cookie traditions going...You are beyond talented and I just marvel at your work! Caroline enjoyed all the Halloween cookies...Just beautiful!!

  20. My favorite cookie is sugar. Not that I don't like chocolate or peanut butter. Burke was about 7 months old when we went to the Burlington City Picnic. Everyone oohh and ahhh over him and made a general fuss. I had followed the doctor's instructions to the letter and had not given him any table food. Another police officer walked up eating a cookie. Burke watched him with wide eyed fascination. He said, "You want some cookie?" and proceeded to pop a bite in his mouth. I thought I would faint, but Burke is still alive and kicking. I have learned that parenting cannot be learned by a book.
We still laugh about Burke's first taste of real food. I wonder if that is why he has a sweet tooth. We love baking the precut sugar cookies that have different designs for the different holidays. Maw Maw will bring us whatever the current cookies are at the store. I guess that is why I have gained weight since we started making cookies. Oh well. I love the many cookie memories that we have.

  21. Bonnie,
You do such beautiful work on both your cakes and cookies! I tried my first cutout cookies this past Christmas - they definitely take a lot of practice and patience! That being said, chocolate chip cookies are hard to beat - esp. hot out of the oven!

  23. I love lots of different types of cookies, but my FAVORITE ones are White Chocolate Macadamia Nut!! I only wish that I was good enough to make them!!
I'm trying to do better at making traditions with my girls. Madison and I have been doing the Christmas cookie making time for 2 years now. Hopefully Makenna can join in next year!!
Although they will never be as beautiful as yours (but they have lots of love)!

  24. Without a doubt my favorite cookie is a sugar cookie... Plain or dressed up like you make them. If you want to get fancy and squeeze a little icing on one and top it with another, that is all the better. But you can't beat a good sugar cookie.
As for my cookie story... We had an elderly neighbor that use to make the most wonderful fruit cake cookies. (they tasted nothing like dry old fruit cake, but they did have the candied fruit in them) Anyway, she had no children and for many years after I went away to college I would get a special package from her filled with her special treat. When I got married she wrote out the recipe and taped it to a nice baking pan for me.... I don't bake anything on that pan without thinking of her. :)

  25. My favorite cookie now is a nice thick sugar cookie. As a child when my mom made sugar cookies at Christmas I loved decorating them but didn't care for them as far as eating was concerned. She always made them thin and I like a thicker softer cookie. Since I started baking an decorating cookies my favorite thing about doing them is when my 11 year old granddaughter, ten year old granddaughter and 8 year old grandson come over and want to be a part of decorating. Sometimes it's hard as they want to help so bad and if I'm working on an order I just have to let them know at this time they can't. It warms my heart and very proud to know that I am helping to bring up the next generation of cookie decorators.
When I was a kid my favorite cookie was one my mom made that had a rockwell thin mint enclosed in a sugar cookie type dough that was to die for. I have the recipe but unfortunately rockwell doesn't make the thin mints anymore and anything I've tried just is not the same. If anyone has any suggestions would love to hear them.
Meredith I love all your decorated things. You do such a fantastic job.

  30. Meredith,
Hi! My favoriete cookie is the Snickerdoodle. I've made these cookies for years for my children as gifts for their teachers, coaches, the mail man/lady, my husbands' co-workers, friends, and family. My husband and I recently became readers for our local school and we carry them goody bags with these cookies. They are especially good this time of year as you bite into them and taste the sweet cinnamon flavor. It's hard to eat just one. I enjoy them most when they first come out of the oven. The aroma fills the house. I do love cookies and I enjoy sharing. Please add me to your pile. Anxious to follow you on your site.
